I’m always SO WEAK to stories that deal with the very real consequences of breaking all of your bones. Poor Izuku. I enjoyed the details of how he’s feeling, the way that the reader’s awareness of his pain waxes and wanes along with Izuku’s (temporary distractions can only do so much, A+ for realism there). Also, soft Dadzawa while not mushy-ooc-Aizawa! Conclusion: I love this and also want Aizawa to make me hot cocoa when there’s storms and i cant sleep!! Aizawa finds out about One for All. Awwwwwwww yiiiiiiiissssssssss!!!!! reveal fic!!!! one of my all time fav tropes!!! Plus it expounds on some future theorys/possibilities(Spoilers!!!) and you get some great interactions between Izuku and Shinsou, and plenty of opportunities taken to wear out our already worn out catepillar-sensei. poor guy needs a break but would do anything for these kids. Incredible characterization, great feels!!

The Gaunlet and friendships and how memes tie the two together by averypassionateperson Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~3,500 words Summary: Shinsou walks into his first day in the Hero Course hoping to get politely ignored. He walks out having gotten into a sanctioned fistfight with the entire Bakusquad and a whole lot of new friendships. Also, memes are responsible for most of this. This fic is SOOOOOOOOO much fun. Always sure to bring a smile and honestly all I could want from a fic about Shinsou’s first day in 1A!!!

Coming from one of the best Dadzawa writers around, is a delightfully haunting fic centered on Hagakure!! The Dazawa is of course, spot on, the premise makes your heart ache as it plays out like a movie in your mind. So smooth to read, while so emotionally painful. Ouch. It is a fic with imagery that has stuck in my mind like a plant with deep roots, bc i keep thinking about it despite my too-much-fanfic-reading-adhd-muddled-brain. I feel like i had more to say but tumglr erased the paragraph i had originally written. D:   (side note, as i am keeping these posts to 10 fics... this fic came from her series of 30 min fics which you can find here on tumblr ao3  its an absolute goldmine of one-shots, go check it out)

a frozen pond, dark and deep by walking_through_autumn Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~3,800 words Summary: In the aftermath of Endeavour's battle against High End, Aizawa escorts Todoroki to his home for special leave, and they have a conversation that has been long in the making. (Or: Over two car rides and the mystery known as bubble tea, Aizawa divulges information, Todoroki returns the favour, and trust is built over unexpected similarities.) This fic felt just as quiet as the two characters it surrounds, which was really nice. Even deep emotional grieving can be quiet, since everyone feels things and reacts to things differently. It was a brilliant way to chip away at these character’s walls to let light shine through without creating an earthquake event to destroy the walls completely, you know? and it works off of canon so well. ah yes seeing the process of Aizawa realizing that hes has adopted another child is my fav    anyhow i enjoyed it very much!

but still my heart is heavy (with the hate of some other man’s beliefs) by honeyandsunshine Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~3,500 words Summary: Nemuri jerks a thumb to the side window, presumably the one with the best view of the front gates. When Shouta looks, a small crowd, all of which he can recognize from his class, are gathered around a sleazy looking man with a camera and a microphone. Half their quirks are activated. Bakugou and Todoroki are smoking. From the bushes nearby, a rather enraged stag emerges. As he gets up, Shouta just hopes they haven’t already killed him. Or:Class 1-A defends their own. Aizawa suffers, but looks after them anyways. I love how this doesn’t go the way you expect it to. and how much Aizawa loves and trusts his class full of gremlin heroes. The Dadzawa is so soft, his logic is sound, my heart aches, and i kinda want to cry. really, really, really great you guys

bend, don’t break by heyhamlet (tumblr: @hey-hamlet ) Rating: T     Category: Gen     ~4,100 words Summary: It started, as it always seemed to, on what was supposed to be a pleasant day. ---A Christmas shopping attempt gone wrong, Aizawa and Midoriya have to survive a strange nightmare quirk, all while trying to work out how to get out of there alive. Aizawa is injured, Midoriya is panicked. It's less a question of what could go wrong, but more what could go right. Another fic that has not left my soul since i read it. Some of it is truly terrifying in a way that I hope never haunts my own nightmares. and honestly isnt that reason enough to read it? While near death experiences bond people together well, nothing beats being trapped with someone in a nightmare that is feeding off of your deepest fears! If Aizawa wasn’t considering adoption before, he certainly is now. Found family before the monster finds you...0.o go read it, its a treat from another top notch writer!

Hi, so I just finished the new season today! I have so many thoughts, the last few episodes felt kind of rushed? I wished they had gone about the whole situation between Gray and Carm at the end differently. More so on seeing them reunited. My biggest question, is why was he so quick on going back to VILE? He knew what they were capable of yes, was it to feed his criminal impulses? Why did ever want to steal in the first place? What led him to that conclusion and how did he learn of VILE? I was keen on seeing more of his backstory, and still need time to let the story simmer so I can analyze it more. It's just confusing. I guess it's just because the show ended that I feel so bittersweet y'know. What do you think Carmen would've done after they all disbanded? How could she leave them so quickly after she just got back to Team Carmen in the end? Besides wanting to see her mother. I was hoping they'd at least stay together.

i think that more than a few people feel that ( the knee jerk incredulity at her just leaving them a note and yeeting was real)

on gray and “thinking gray.”: I was also feeling the lackluster on the payoff motivation wise for gray returning to VILE ( which was definitely needed as he was the secret weapon needed to finally get evil carmen back and at least partially inevitable due to ownership of the choices yadadadada )but like when he finally got his memories back he just repeated some things that i never really doubted. that gray did this of his own free will, he probably is of a lower empathy in general (which does not mean incapable of caring and doing the right thing. just that..~~~), that he regretted hurting carmen. in s1 he says his primary motivation as making more money and i was like”mmhmm fits.” being a thief and all and why not since they hadn’t introduced the big “needs to be able to tie up loose ends.” as a operative qualifier to anyone, including some of the recruits there. the only newer thing was his video that he seeked them out. which is interesting and all but sets him up as a go-getter so its so confusing that he’d choose to return to VILE ...a place where he was hurt and is so freaking selfish with what capers they choose to pursue. i kinda went on a tangent on another post that there is a theme of using a false sense of bonding to give them a little more loyalty which is like really heavy considering that means offering a “home” to what looks like operatives who might all be orphans but i don’t think it was highlighted enough to say “HEY YO” even tho GRAY LOOKS SO TIRED TO LEARN ABOUT HIS PAST WITH VILE

its really interesting because of the 3 people who had access to him/nature we got; carmen who only encouraged his desire to help (for the kiddos, for her safety, for assuring her that they were in...whatever... together, and make sure that they weren’t being secret spy jerks) ACME who got like...0 usefulness (riperonis ma guys), and VILE with maelstrom just hammering home all his shadier deeds with  “YEAH THIS IS YOU.”  AND HIM JUST ACCEPTING IT AFTER SITTING FOR A LONG AF TIME ALONE.

and when this was happening I was thinking about this analysis from another fandom about characters who resign to the law of the strong which could have been a reason for why gray doesn’t seem to hold the consequences for his failure against VILE even though he really should. (if they bothered but listen-)

its something that happens when characters choose to live in worlds they know are unfair, know that they choose to lie and steal and cheat, and thus should not be surprised or hurt when it happens to them in return. which of course lead to them not knowing where to draw the line on what happens to them...and i mean this in like some narratives usually go (hahaha no thats messed up please gtfo being treated like that is not ok and in allowing others to define your limits you are whittling yourself away). and they decide to live in resignation that. i am capable of bad... so i AM bad. (I am that guy. i’ve always been that guy) and makes them absolutely ripe for the (but you’ve been good . you can choose to be better.  it won’t erase the wrongs of the past but it will make for a better future)

but that still leaves exploration of “WHY WOULD YOU CHOOSE TO LIVE BY THE LAW OF THE STRONG??” and you know...not having anyone to rely on, poverty, or what was simple rebelliousness turning to darker and darker paths, are some easy reasons to put a spotlight on maybe our operatives having depth and like..arcs. especially any of those reasons combined. ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY’RE WHAT VILE CONSISTENTLY IS SHOWN OFFERING. (shadowsan really is their s-tier character huh)

which i really thought this show would go for when a shivering brunt who is loyal and protective asked if she was really going to be left behind or remember how unsympathetic most of them seemed to see carmen chloroformed because “she did interrupt our heist.” meaning that they understand this world. probably have understood it for longer than anyone should. (antonio being content as a “pawn” is the tenant in my head today) and why shouldn’t more money be important. or honestly how simple it was to accept that someone would just need more money.

with gray they introduced that he could be good and he could be bad but like leaned into “no all that niceness was fake and he’s bad.” due to the hyper specificity of the mind wipe apparently? which also leans into really flat interpretation of evil!carmen (i just mean that there is a lot there ...) meaning theres no really exploration of him and more of a judgment (even though he’s shown to be kind, snarky, and upfront, as himself without a mind wipe.) and then we wait...

the pacing of the last 2 episodes: adrenaline bebe!!! but also there were so many concepts being introduced and resolved and skimmed past so that it is a little confusing at some conclusions. like the scene you’re talking about where carmen just leaves a note and ghosts is like 30 seconds and thats a lot to unpack because ?? i’m really thinking that it might have been insinuating that carmen left them the pen specifically to give them a new home to wait for her because she was going on that little break like she planned (and they knew was the endgoal) because it was behind her note and presumably placed by her but because i was focusing on the letter goodbye like ??? i thought for some reason that it was zack saying he would now like to try ACME because HE thought of it and i was like ??when did you consider this?? and 3rd watch i was finally “ahhh ok ok i think i get it.”

another bitten off scene i think might have been when gray in his first mission is already exhibiting signs of going...”huh this is not good.”

from stopping carmen from unprofessionalism to seeing that new carmen is willing to up and leave the group for mental gymnastics instead of relying on them 100% to going to the ferris wheel where he DEFINITELY SAW HER TRYING TO KILL A CIVILIAN since it showed his reaction after ivy’s. and then it turn to team red because how they feel about it definately matters more than gray but its also so easy to miss that choosing to have gray witness that as the start of what makes him turn himself in (maybe this is just a possible interpretation and its midnight ok)

evil carmen! lost her empathy. ok. so then like thats a static judgment about how they’re gonna make her do bad stuff and she still absolutely cares about her history and VILE still needed to enforce bonding and giving her memories that they comforted her and gave her her coat so thats why she cares about it and her anger at betrayal and sense of loss that she still throws right in shadowsans face when “evil”

carmen thought she crossed a personal line?? like jeeeeeez that’s 6 months of crossing lines and the most recent and horrifying one happened like not even a minute ago and then 5 seconds later we get chief and her reconciling because yes it needed to happen so we’re not gonna address how traumatizing it was or

VILE JUST WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN HUH??

and all these things are important and have the groundwork for happening but man they just happen one after the other and its like

before moving on to the next thing and like let me breathe omg

and yeah that means that so many people were left confused because the show about family (carmen’s family that SHE built ) seemed to disband for carmen to go to see her mother at last alone, shadowsan to go to his brother and a heartbroken pair of red heads to join ACME

and we get a time gap before reuniting but only a few seconds to decide if reuniting was the plan all along(the pressure point)

and there is a lot of actual IN TIME that is broad strokes that many people have already picked whats going to haunt them that wasn’t explored more...

TLDR; i get it on both counts (gray and rushed)! glad there was some sweet in your bittersweet and since canon definitely had team red in the same place they absolutely reunited and moved back into the shop and carmen talked to them about how great her mom is and planned a dinner

FAVORITE THING ABOUT THEM: He wears a beanie on his official outfit and for around 4 years of my life, I also always wore a beanie on my head at all times cuz I couldnt control my hair. So ya know, relatable.

Seriously, though: He’s probably the best Persona 3 character, who carries a whole lot of the theme on his personal arc, like the fact you’re gonna die and how you live your life, matters. Also ,the way he is a victim of circumstances, but doesnt ever complain about that, and just accepted his terrible destiny… in a way, there’s a lot of dignity on how he carries himself, you know?

LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT THEM: If you want to. Like, if you really want to, or just doesnt think much about it, you could easily define his character by “tsundere” traits. I obviously hate this characterization and want nothing to do with it, but  judging by how some people characterize him and Aki, you would not be guilty of thinking like that. Weirdly enough, in PQ thats pretty much his thing.

FAVORITE LINE: He has some of the best and most significant ones. “Live” for Ken, but “ “Adios, asshole.”and “Still alive? … Good” when he comes to help.

BROTP: Shinjiro and Hamuko is Good Stuff, good quality content. Shinjiro and Fuuka is also flawless. Shinjiro and Junpei learning how to deal with each other has a lot of potential. Shinjiro and Yukari/Mitsuru growing to care about each other, same.

But Mitsuru and Shinjiro is, ultimately, the real thing. Shoulda’ve been canon brotp if you ask me.

OTP: Shinijro/Akihiko was the Air I breathed for around 3 years of my life.

notp: Shinji/Hamu mostly because… of the fandom’s characterization of it, rather than for the actual ship.. Shinji/Fuuka cuz is mostly a bro thing to me.

random headcanon: His dad left him and thats why he end up on the orphanage. This left him with a lot of issues around his self-worth. He used to pick fights against other kids and didnt want to make friends with anyone cuz he was convinced his dad would come back to pick him up.

He took in a bunch of part time jobs while living on the street, so he knows a buch of restaurants around town, and other places that could accept him to at least wipe the floor.

unpopular opinion: I have come across with two characterizations of Shinjiro that usually go like “UwU Shinjiro secret baby, likes cooking and fluffy things” and “Shinjiro is an asshole who cant put two sentences together without cursing” and I’m pretty sure both of those are an exaggeration.The real guy lies in the middle. I especially dont agree with the first one, though.

According to his dialogue during battles, he’s pretty much on his natural, by fighting out Shadows, cursing them out and is generally rude, too. Dude, he fights shadows with an Axe, with traffic signs! Some of his first lines on his social link are laughing of  a wound he has on his mouth that he forgot he had, and it was due to Aki punching him, which he takes lightly. He hangs out on that suspicious corner of the town on which all the other delinquents seem afraid of him.He literally fights them all without difficulty, on the movie.You dont get to be a person like that, without being comfortable with the idea of wrecking the next idiot that crosses your way or talks about crossing your way, and to become that, you need a lifetime of fighting others, and being good at it. You also need to be smart and knowing your way around town, like bars, clubs and underground meeting places. It struck to me how Shinjiro refers to the owner of the Club Escapade as his friend. That implies knowing the towns underground and nasty places and not only knowing of it, but knowing about it intimately. Thats pretty much where he lives.

That being said, none of this cancels out the fact Shinjiro likes cooking, seems to be an nurturer of  others by nature, and gets along well with animals. It kinda goes with it, actually. He seems to be a mysanthrope so he likes animals best, has no wish to grow closer to others cuz he already accepted his death, so of course he’s not out there cooking for everybody he meets, and being affectionate and cordial. Its not as much about him being shy, despite the fact he`s awkward, its about him having no wish to get out of his way to connectwith others, since his one everlasting connection is alreay giving him such a pain in the ass, anyway. I’m not saying that Shinjiro enjoys being a tough looking guy with a bad reputation, but its not just some kind of appearance he’s trying to keep up as if it was a farce, it does seems part of his personality.

People who try to cancel out Shinjiro’s tough-semi-aggressive tendencies and behavior because of his more soft side, rub me out the wrong way cuz like… you do know people can be well rounded on their interests and facets, right? You do know tough guys are capable of tenderness, in fact, most people are, right? Like,one thing doesnt cancel the other and we dont really know who Shinjiro would be if he wasnt on his “guess I’ll die” state of mind, anyway so, a characterization that tries to make him soft and uwu and tsundere rubs me the wrong way, since you’re deliberately trying not to think on a heavy part of his characterization so you can have a softer shinji, which makes him kind of an archetype of a character, easy to describe on two sentences, just like Mitsuru, Aigis and Akihiko. Both, the fandom and also PQII seem to sin on this.I also believe that on the Persona 3 original game, he wasnt supposed to be interpreted as your typical good looking guy, - taking a look at his first sketches; because of that, I try not to think of Shinjiro as your generally attractive dude. Of course, Shinjiro has a way cleaner design on P3DMN, which I dont mind, so its not something I would fight for, or anything.

Rune Factory Headcanons: Dolce And Pico

I’m gonna start rambling ideas and stuff because I LOVE THIS GAME! They’ll probably all be super long posts but its slightly less long if I split them up by character, at least. So.. woooo, lets go!!

* I’ve only played through the female protagonist route so far so I dont know everything about Dolce yet, apologies if I get anything wrong. * Does anyone else find it odd that she’s the only one who doesn’t really have any monster traits, out of the guardians? I mean, her monster form was humanoid but it still was a monster. I would have assumed she’d at least keep the blue skintone or something. So my headcanon is that she does still have some monster powers like everyone else, even if her design doesnt show it as much. I think maybe it’d be cool if she was still kinda marionettelike? Like her skin is abnormally cold and she doesnt have a heartbeat. Maybe she keeps her fangs? Gets mad when people mistake her for a vampire! And I dunno, maybe she can still levitate a little. Her and Pico have even more in common now! * or I dunno, maybe she wasn’t an elf before she became a guardian, and her long ears are meant to be her monster trait? * A thought: since its said that Pico ‘scans’ outfits she sees and can wear them even though she’s a ghost, maybe her current outfit is her cosplaying Marionetta? or maybe when Dolce became Marionetta she became a monster form similar to Pico because they’re BFFs? * I know the game doesn’t really focus on it, but I think it must have been especially sad for Pico to remain awake for the entire time Dolce was sleeping as Marionetta, waiting to find an Earthmate who could free her friend. Pico’s such a goofball that she probably wouldnt admit it, but I feel like she’s so over-the-top with her love for Dolce nowadays because she missed her so much. And it could have been an interesting Town Event to deal with, actually! Like, Dolce noticing Pico is acting weird because from her perspective she was just asleep for a moment but for Pico its been so long that its like she cant even remember how she used to act around her best friend. Maybe having to rebuild their relationship a little before Pico starts being her goofy prankster self again, instead of just starting off that way? * Also I like to headcanon that Marionetta’s marionette strings (called Handetta in the monster book) are actually a separate creature. I like the idea I came up with of that being Pico using her ghost powers to try and restrain her monsterified friend, but being dragged around cos she’s not strong enough. * A possible other idea for ‘what if pico got a bigger role and her own series of Town Events’, maybe Pico feeling guilty that some part of her is secretly happy that Dolce is a monster too now, and they’ve been able to stay together for centuries longer than she expected. No matter how much tragedy happened, its still good that she hasnt had to watch her friend die yet, and that she gets to see dolce find a new family. But still someday she WILL die, and maybe Pico is now worried she might make the same mistakes Dolce did when Ventuswill was dying. I think thats the only reason Pico could have possibly had for not being angry at Dolce for running off and becoming a guardian without her, she knows she would have become a guardian to save Dolce if it was her in danger. Well, that and its hard to be angry when you’re seeing someone for the first time after hundreds of years! * Possibly there could have been an event of Pico getting jealous of you getting romantically involved with Dolce? I mean, i know the game likes to be a buttface and have everyone acting incredibly gay yet nobody is allowed to be canonically gay, but am I allowed to just headcanon that Pico is? Well, mostly cos her being all pervy jokes to Dolce would be creepy pseudo-incest if theyre supposed to be ‘like sisters’. I totally headcanon that its a situation where like... childhood friend love, but unrequited. Alas Dolce doesnt feel the same way, and Pico respects that and tries to joke around to make things less awkward. So she’s totally a supportive shipper of you X Dolce after the lil jealousy plotline is resolved, she just wants Dolce to be happy. * This is why I really wish Pico was a marriage option!! Well, that and she’s a ‘really older than she looks’ character that doesnt actually ACT like a child. I always felt uncomfortable on amber and kiel’s romance routes cos they both look and act like theyre too young to date you. if the game had to have a weirdly youthful looking character of ambiguous age, it coulda at least been the funny ghost who acts like a pervy teen! Also i just feel bad that the player steals Dolce from her, even if she doesnt have a crush on Dolce its still stealing Dolce from her since Pico is haunting her and Dolce is the only person who can touch her. They’d be spending a lot less time together if you get married, Pico would have to be floating off in another room reading a book all the time while you’re on dates or doing the do. She doesnt even have the courtesy of being able to go particularly far away and find something else to distract her :P * Alternative solution that would have also been good: if you could have a romance bar for Pico and then be able to have a polyamorous marriage with both her and Dolce! * Alternative alternative solution: if you could choose to romance just Pico instead, and maybe she’s able to transfer over to haunting you instead once you fall in love, which also makes you able to kiss and stuff. ^_^ * Though it would probably be very sad for Dolce cos if she’s been living together with Pico since they were both children it would take a long time to get used to being alone. * Also! Some headcanons potentially for Pico’s aliveness and how they met and stuff! We only hear ingame that Pico was haunting the house Dolce’s family moved into, and they were together ‘since we were babies’. I dunno, I think I’m gonna try and pretend that’s a translation mistake because personally I’d feel it would be hard to imagine they WEREN’T raised as sisters if Pico was haunting the house since that early on. it would be rather more uncomfortable that Pico makes pervy jokes about dating someone who was literally raised as her sister. * Anyway, bunni’s undeveloped possible headcanon for alive-Pico! I was thinking possibly if she’s a ghost and she died at such a young age, she must have come back because she died super tragically, right?? Maybe her family was wiped out by the Sechs empire like Doug’s tribe was? Or maybe she somehow died in some way that gave her reason to hate Dolce’s family, which is why she started haunting their young daughter in particular. Like, her father’s dying breath was cursing this family’s unborn child, and his daughter’s ghost tried to follow that wish. So she started off pulling pranks on Dolce out of actual malice, but ended up becoming her closest childhood friend instead and growing to abandon that grudge. I’m thinking since Dolce (at least probably) is an elf and we cant see pico’s ears to tell what she was in life, maybe she was a human or a dwarf or some other race that had a conflict with elves at the time? or maybe just her family lived in the same town as dolce’s family and they were romeo and juliet style rival clans who would wish revenge upon each other’s descendants like that. Anyway I need to develop the idea but I like this as a fanfic plot, that maybe there’s some reason they werent friends at first and there’s a plotline of how Pico became so devoted to her that she’d wait centuries guarding Marionetta. (Seriously I am so emotional over that) * Also its never really expanded upon but its implied maybe Dolce became Pico’s haunting target because she had some latent spiritual power or something...? When they briefly describe how they were friends since Dolce was a kid, it says about how Dolce could see her and touch her even before anyone else could. Which is curious cos it implies some stuff about how the possession works! So Pico wasn’t always ‘attatched’ to Dolce like this? She wasn’t always able to be seen by other people? Maybe she started off ‘attatched’ to the mansion itself and like... ghosts work in a way that they have to possess a human because they have no power otherwise? Or maybe the only other way of gaining power is to go mad, and become one of the undead-category monsters that dont seem able to speak or take humanoid forms like pico. Its a bit confusing cos some of them are called ghosts and some are called spirits instead, and some are called both depending on which menu description you read... * I’m just very upset that they introduced ghosts as a race in the rune factory series and they never explained anything about them or gave the one ghost character a romance route :P Maybe thats why I’m weirdly more interested in Pico’s backstory than Dolce’s?
